“I know this is going to sound
so crazy, but... from the very first moment I first set eyes on you I can’t
stop thinking about you.” We’ve heard dialogues like this in quite a number of
movies right?
Love at first sight is not
something that can be easily explained. Some people even deny that it is
possible claiming it is merely just sexual attraction between genders. Indeed,
how can we fall in love after one quick glance? How can such a glance can make us
believe that we would want to spend the rest of our life in the arms of a stranger whom we just met?
A famous saying by unknown
philosopher goes by “the only true love is love at first sight; second sight
dispels it.” The fine line between romantic intensity and romantic relationship,
a distinction that is seldom made, is important in understanding love.
The survival chances of
initial love increases when we think about love at first, rather than love at
first sight. Such a meeting provides more time to get to know each other’s
characteristics, such as likes, dislikes, wisdom and a sense of humor, and to
become involved in initial activities, such as conversation. Plus, signs of the
unique instant connection between the two genders might arise at the first
meeting, such as a tender or "accidental" touch. This touching can be
one-sided, although the touched side may wish
for reciprocal touching, but is not ready yet to take that particular step.
Steve Jobs once said, "As
with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any
great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on."
Should we follow what our heart says and seriously make a move for the love at
first sight? We usually should do so, as such love is a genuine expression of
our response. Love at first sight is a matter of the heart. As Steve Jobs said,
"you will know when you find it." And perhaps "it just gets
better and better as the years roll on." The problem is, however, it gets more
complex.
"Do you believe in love
at first sight or should I walk by again?"
